For whom is that course?

 This course is for the experienced skipper, that wants to gain confidence in  long distance offshore sailing and wants to learn advanced sailing and  skippering techniques. Ideal for those going for a Certificate of Competence

 

Theory background

 

 Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster shorebased

 

Practical experience

 

 Sailing to Day Skipper standard. Minimum 15 days sea time, 2 as skipper,  300NM, 8 night hours

Course content

 

 Advanced skippering course.

  • Passage planning

  • Preparation for sea

  • Pilotage

  • Passage making

  • Yacht handling under power and sail

  • Adverse weather conditions (including fog)

  • Emergency situations

Examination

 

 There is no examination. The Instructor is assessing the competence and  monitors the progress of the students throughout the course giving guidance  and ensure that everyone is aware of their strengths and weaknesses

 

Certificate

 

 Coastal Skipper non-tidal course completion certificate

 

Ability after the course

 

 Able to skipper a yacht on coastal and offshore passages by day or night in  non-tidal waters. After this course you will have the knowledge, if not the  experience, to go for a Yachtmaster Coastal Certificate of Competence  examination.

Day Skipper

The certificate you will get at the end is the minimum requirement to charter a boat in non-tidal waters.

For whom is that course?

 A course for the aspiring skipper. Introduction into skippering for those who  have little experience and want to move on to skippering. Some experience is  necessary as the objective is not to teach how to do something but when.  Skippering is about decision making after all.

Theory background

  Ideally Day Skipper Shorebased or equivalent. Essential navigation and  seamanship as minimum.

Practical experience

 At least 5 days at sea, 100 NM and 4 night hours. Deckwork to Competent  Crew level or higher.

 Course content

 Introduction into skippering. The following will be covered

  • Preparation for sea above and bellow decks

  • Deck work

  • Navigation. Passage planing and making, visual fixes, electronic aids, waypoints, DR and EP, IALA Buoyage

  • Pilotage

  • Meteorology

  • International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea.

  • Maintenance and repairs

  • Engines

  • Victualing

  • Emergency situations

  • Yacht handling under power and sail

  • Passage making

  • Night cruising

Duration

 Min 5 days. We run it in 7. It can be run over 3 weekends

There is no examination. The Instructor is assessing the competence and  monitors the progress of the students throughout the course giving guidance  and ensure that everyone is aware of their strengths and weaknesses

Certificate

 Day Skipper non-tidal course completion certificate. Minimum requirement for  chartering in many countries.

Ability after the course

Able to skipper a yacht in short passages by day

 

Competent Crew

Seamanship course for beginners.

Learn how a boat and her crew works before taking command.
After this course you will be able to handle sails and their ropes, tie knots, steer a course and you will know about emergency procedures and living aboard.
If you like to participate in sailing and not just sit then this is the course for you.

Have in mind that skippers are relying on their crew, so a well trained crew member is always important even for the most experienced.

For whom is that course?

A practical course for those that want to learn how to be active and responsible crew members. Basically this course builds a strong foundation for a successful skipper.

Theory background

There is no need to have theory knowledge, although speaking English is essential.

Course content

Basic seamanship and helmsmanship, navigation and meteorology

  • Sea terms and parts of the boat, her rigging and sails.
  • Sail handling (setting, bending, reefing, use of sheets and halyards and their jammers)
  • Handling ropes (coiling, stowing, securing onto cleats, preparing for mooring, tying knots)
  • Fire precautions and fighting
  • Personal safety equipment
  • Man overboard recovery
  • Emergency equipment and procedures
  • Manners and customs
  • Rules of the road and lookout
  • Rowing the dinghy
  • Basic meteorology
  • Helmsmanship and sailing (sail trimming and steering on all points of sail)
  • General duties

Duration

7 days. It can be run over 3 weekends. Min 5 days.

 For everyone that wants to experience sailing for the first time. A taster  course usually for our young sailors.

 There is no need to have theory knowledge, although speaking English is  essential.

 

Practical experience

 

 No minimum experience required.

 This is an introduction into sailing and seamanship and the following will be  discussed

  • Sea terms,parts of a boat, her rigging and sails

  • Knots and ropework

  • Sailing and steering

  • Lookout

  • Emergency situations, equipment and precautions

  • Weather forecasts

  • Personal safety onboard
