Mile building

Mile Builders are practical, hands-on programmes that allow students to accumulate real sea miles and passages, supplementing previous skipper training (RYA or otherwise), providing structured sea time and skill development.

You’ll gain practical, hands-on experience in Greek waters, preparing you for future charters and boat rentals. Along the way, you’ll enjoy the thrill of real-world passages, anchoring in secluded bays, and handling boats in a variety of conditions. This is training with a sense of adventure, making every mile exciting and memorable.

Who is this programme for?

This programme is designed to bridge the gap between completing initial skipper training and stepping into independent skippering. It allows participants to consolidate existing skills, gain practical experience, and prepare for advanced qualifications or confident solo voyages.

It is intended for participants who have already completed core RYA courses or hold equivalent certifications/experience in their chosen discipline (sailing, powerboats, or motor cruising).

To fully benefit from the programme, participants should meet the following prerequisites:

Sailing

RYA Day Skipper Sail or equivalent

Participants with basic skippering skills who wish to become more independent or practice more before their RYA Coastal Skipper Sail course.

Speedboat

RYA Level 2 Powerboat Handling or equivalent

Hands-on training in short coastal passages, berthing, manoeuvres inside the marina and coming alongside

Motor Cruising

RYA Day Skipper Motor or equivalent

Participants with basic skippering skills who wish to become more independent or practice more before their RYA Coastal Skipper Motor course

The “Silent Skipper” 🤫

A unique feature of our mile-building programmes is the inclusion of a “silent skipper” on board. This RYA-certified instructor accompanies the group throughout the voyage, providing supervision and ensuring safety, but deliberately refrains from taking control.
By allowing participants to manage the boat themselves, the silent skipper creates a realistic environment for developing confidence, decision-making skills, and a true sense of responsibility- mirroring what it feels like to skipper independently.

The “Skipper of the Day” method

The “Skipper of the Day” method is a hands-on approach designed to give each participant a real taste of independent skippering. Each day, one crew member takes on the role of skipper, taking responsibility for all aspects of the voyage under the guidance of an RYA-certified instructor.
This includes planning the passage, making navigation decisions, managing the crew, and handling the boat in a variety of conditions. The instructor supervises from a supportive role, offering advice only when necessary, allowing the appointed skipper to experience the full responsibility and decision-making process.

The Social Factor

Our programmes bring together boating enthusiasts from around the world, creating a vibrant and congenial atmosphere on board. Shared experiences, building memories, and learning together make these voyages ideal for the young and young at heart who want to develop their skills, enjoy life at sea, and connect with fellow sailors.

More than just training

Our programmes combine sailing training with discovery and cultural immersion. Explore Greek islands, visit historic and archaeological sites, enjoy local cuisine, and take time for swimming, hiking, or simply relaxing in beautiful anchorages. A unique way to build skills while experiencing Greece beyond the boat.
