Our RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course in Athens is ideal for those wishing learn how to operate a small speedboat (<10m) safely and competently in daylight and in familiar coastal waters. This is the RYA’s most popular powerboat qualification and the standard requirement for anyone wishing to drive a powerboat for leisure or work professionally in the maritime sector.

Upon successful completion, you will receive the RYA Powerboat Level 2 Certificate, which can also be used to apply for the ICC Powerboat endorsement, widely recognised throughout Europe and beyond.

As with all RYA courses, the emphasis of our RYA Level 2 Powerboat Course is firmly on practical training. You’ll spend two full hands-on sessions on the boat, gaining real-life skills and experience in a variety of conditions.

What You Learn

Essential boat handling and close-quarters manoeuvring, low-speed and high-speed control, coming alongside, turning in confined spaces, man-overboard recovery, launching and recovery, anchoring, securing to a mooring, passage planning and basic navigation, safety equipment and emergency procedures, collision regulations, and safe decision-making on the water.

The RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course is the ideal starting point for anyone new to powerboating, giving participants the core skills and confidence needed to handle a small powerboat safely and responsibly. Throughout the two-day course, you will be introduced to and practise the following areas:

Preparation of the boat and essential safety equipment
Powerboat terminology, key components, and basic seamanship
Low-speed manoeuvring, close-quarters handling, and turning in confined spaces
High-speed handling, trim control, and efficient boat handling techniques
Coming alongside, mooring, anchoring, and securing the boat
Ropework and essential knots used in powerboating
Basic navigation and planning short coastal passages
Collision Regulations (COLREGs) and safe decision-making afloat
Man-overboard recovery procedures
Launching, recovery, and trailer handling (where applicable)

The cap for participants on any RYA Powerboat Course is set at 3, ensuring optimal learning and practice opportunities for each attendee, along with dedicated attention from the instructor.

Can I book this course as private training?

We offer the option to run this course as private training, tailored to your schedule, your own boat (if applicable), and your specific learning needs. It can be organised for individuals, couples, families, or small groups who prefer a more personalised experience

Will I receive a certificate at the end of the course?

Yes, absolutely!

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be awarded the RYA Powerboat Level 2 Certificate. This widely accepted qualification serves as recognised proof of your ability to safely handle a small powerboat.

Holders of this certificate are also eligible to apply to the RYA for an International Certificate of Competence (ICC), making it an excellent stepping stone for those wishing to operate powerboats abroad.
