The RYA Intermediate Powerboat Course bridges the gap in knowlegde and skills between local day trips in familiar waters and longer coastal journeys, giving you the skills to take on more challenging conditions, extended passages, and unfamiliar waters.

Offered in Athens, and over two days of intensive, on-the-water training in the beautiful Saronic Gulf, you’ll refine your boat handling, build confidence at higher speeds, and develop advanced navigation and passage planning techniques.

With a strong focus on real-world scenarios, you’ll learn how to prepare for longer trips, make safe decisions in changing weather, and handle your powerboat with precision and control.

The RYA Powerboat Intermediate Course is the perfect next step for anyone who has basic powerboat skills and wants to build greater confidence and competence on the water. This course focuses on refining your boat-handling skills, decision-making, and safety awareness in a wider range of conditions. Over the course, you will be introduced to and practise:

· Advanced Boat Handling: Higher speeds, tight turns, reversing, docking under pressure
· Navigation & Pilotage: Coastal navigation, plotting courses, tides, and marks
· Seamanship: Anchoring, mooring, ropework, towing techniques
· Safety & Emergency Procedures: Man-overboard drills, emergency stops, engine failure, grounding
· Practical Experience: Hands-on driving in challenging conditions, extended coastal passages

Who will I be sharing the boat with?

The cap for participants on any RYA Powerboat Course is set at 3, ensuring optimal learning and practice opportunities for each attendee, along with dedicated attention from the instructor.

Can I book this course as private training?

We offer the option to run this course as private training, tailored to your schedule, your own boat (if applicable), and your specific learning needs. It can be organised for individuals, couples, families, or small groups who prefer a more personalised experience

Will I receive a certificate at the end of the course?

Yes, absolutely!

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be awarded the RYA Intermediate Powerboat Certificate. This widely accepted qualification serves as recognised proof of your ability to safely handle a small powerboat.

Holders of this certificate are also eligible to apply to the RYA for an International Certificate of Competence (ICC), making it an excellent stepping stone for those wishing to operate powerboats abroad.
